James Carl
Toronto artist James Carl has developed his practice against the background of his training at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing, and several years living and studying in New York City. Since the early 1990s he has shown his work
in several group exhibitions across Canada and in New York and Berkley, California, as well as in Austria and Germany. In 1999 he was the recipient of a New York Public Art Fund commission. The same year Carl received the prestigious Louis Comfort Tiffany Award. Carl has also become known for The Balcony, a series of international public projects he has curated on his downtown Toronto balcony.
