For more than two decades London, Ontario artist Kim Moodie has woven a personal vocabulary of imagery into complexly layered line drawings. His work finds a natural affinity with that of a new generation of artists who have returned to drawing as a primary practice rather than a provisional means toward artistic ends in other media. Moodie's unique imagery may be compared to several traditions, including Mexican day of the dead personages and medieval capital and manuscript adornment. But this fantastical imagery also shares a distinct relationship to children's storybook illustration and underground comic books. Moodie has always worked between these worlds, invoking the popular while often drawing his inspiration from classical painting.
Moodie participated in Other Worlds at Jessica Bradley Art & Projects June 25 - July 23, 2005.
