OPENING WEDNESDAY APRIL 8, 6 to 8 pm
Zin Taylor lives in Brussels where he developed the works for this exhibition using common forms and found materials to construct an imagined narrative. Taylor has assembled his related group of works in different media to suggest the culturally rich metaphor of bread making – a process involving basic elements, activating agents, chemistry and time. In a narrative of transformation generated from eight abandoned blocks of wood from a closed bakery, Taylor explores the development of sculptural form as a densely layered process that resembles organic growth. The exhibition was conceived like an audience testing pilot mechanism, such as those used for proposed television series. Accordingly, various related elements – sculpture, video and photographs - are construed to resemble a partial set, some short clips and a series of promotional posters.
The Bakery of Blok will be developed in a second series of works to be presented in Taylor’s up-coming solo exhibition at Miguel Abreu Gallery, New York (opening mid-June through August).
In 2008 Zin Taylor’s work was seen in The Crystal Ship - BELvue Museum / Etablissement d’en Face Projects, Brussels. In 2007 he had solo exhibitions at Galerie Isabella Bortolozzi, Berlin, Establissement d’en Face Projects, Brussels, YYZ Artist-Outlet, Toronto and Presentation House, Vancouver.
